RSG Host GWE Business West Initiative Luncheon

On Friday 18th March, Resource Solutions Group Plc (RSG) hosted a luncheon to bring together a number of thought leaders from local businesses and educational organisations as part of the GWE Business West Initiative.

RSG is an experienced recruitment provider with a long heritage in the South West. Having recently joined the Initiative, a regional leadership team dedicated to enhancing and developing the South West, RSG invited several senior figures from local organisations to exchange knowledge and discuss key issues affecting the Bristol economy.

The event took place at the Clifton Club, a prestigious members’ only venue, located in a beautifully restored Georgian building in Clifton village. Mike Beesley, CEO of RSG, hosted the luncheon which was attended by Martin Boddy, Associate Dean of Bristol Business School at the University of the West of England; Mike King, Regulatory Director of Bristol Water Plc; Nigel Eagers, Vice Principal of Filton College, Charles Barks, General Manager of Bristol Marriott City Centre Hotel, and James Durie, Director of the Initiative.

Over a three-course menu, the delegates discussed whether Bristol is ‘resource-ready’ for the Initiative’s 2050 vision. ‘Bristol 2050’ aims to develop a comprehensive and forward-looking plan for the city’s development over the next 40 years, aiming to create an extra 160,000 new jobs.

CEO of RSG, Mike Beesley said: “We were concerned with discussing whether the region can actually meet these ambitious resourcing requirements from growth in the private sector. Collectively, we felt it was important to come up with a sustainable solution for attracting expanding industries to the South West who will eventually require this resource.

“It was very interesting to hear from local employers whether or not they thought the next generation of employees have the necessary skills to continue and sustain growth in these industry areas. The representatives present from the educational institutions in our city had some interesting insights on preparing students for the world of employment in the current economic climate.

“Being part of the GWE Business West Initiative is very important to RSG. Our Head Offices have been based in Bristol for over 35 years, and we have a vested interest in the area. We would like to see more investors and enterprise coming to the region, to ensure that Bristol can compete in a global marketplace.”
